exacccctttlllyyy. it just leaves your mind running. though on the plus side, early departures would find out their fate rather soon compared to the additional two week wait had we got our interviews sooner. lol

Bejma wrote:I wonder how many applicants there were this year. It seems that in prior year it was usually right around 5000-6000.

taking into consideration everything that's happened over the last year coupled with the shortened deadline, around 4500.

the numbers for 2011 was never released, so i find it hard to see 5000 - 6000 applicants. im pretty sure after that 2009/2010 year where it was released that 5300 or 5600 people applied was the highest.

I'm taking the extra time to compile an 80's style video montage about my preparations ala Rocky instead of freaking out.

SOME of us might have 4 weeks of stress to enjoy---my interview is on February 16th! That's less than two weeks!!! O__o

You're Portland, right? What time's yours? Mine's 11:30. Time for early morning 2 hour drive up. My dad wants to tag along; is that considered lame? lol

Sadly, I am fairly certain no one gets placed in Tokyo (city, anyway). The people who do get placed in Tokyo prefecture end up being on the outlying islands.

Not at all. I'd drag my mom along if it made any sense at all to. Willingly. She wouldn't want to go though, and would just leave me flapping in the wind. lol

Mine is on the 17th in PDX. I'm less stressed about it than I am about meeting my thesis adviser on Wednesday. haha.

Washington, DC interviews are Feb 23-24, which I am pretty happy about. Instead of thinking of it as extra time to freak out, I'm trying to take it as extra time to take deep breaths and prepare as best I can. I think I'm going to let friends read my state of purpose essay and ask me some questions about it, just to see what they come up with : )

Woot Portland! Mine's on the 16th as well. I wish we had more time to prep, though I guess the sooner the interview the less time we have to dwell and over think things. hopefully I make it back to town in time.

My mom also wants to come. I suspect she just wants to go shopping afterwards though lol.

Ahhh, could be! I'm kinda jelly you guys get to pick, hahaha. Miami's clearly super cool, though.

I loooove that our coordinator is Miami_Coordinator XD

Haha, thanks guys. This means I have to be extra scary in the interview.

Seriously, though, you have my email address now, so feel free to ask me any questions you may have :) . That said, I can't answer anything about specific questions or interview format or anything like that. I'll provide some very basic information about the interview in an email later in the week, and beyond that I really can't get too in-depth with details. However, you can ask me any other questions you may have that aren't addressed or aren't clear in that later email.

I don't know how she assigns interviews, but you should contact the Seattle Coordinator ASAP to explain your situation. We all use different systems to assign interviews (for example, I allow participants to let me know their preferences, but ultimately it's my decision). Once interviews are booked, it's rare to be able to get a change to another time slot, and absolutely impossible to interview on a date other than the prearranged interview dates.

For the people freaking out about the PDF list - I'd say not to worry about it. All that list is really supposed to be is a way for you guys to check for yourselves about whether or not you passed (and it's a clue to check your inboxes). What really matters is whether or not you received an email or a letter from your coordinator. That's the official word that you passed. As for the numbers originally being jumbled, that's probably a reflection of the ways in which applications are reviewed. I don't know anything about numbers being cut, but it could well be that those were duplicate applications (some people submit multiple ones electronically). I'm not sure for the exact reasons behind it all, but it probably doesn't really matter. Just focus on your interviews :D .

Scary miami_coordinator? Nah :P

I didn't know you were also conducting interviews! Now I have to watch what I say here XD

I am looking forward to getting our exact date/time for our interviews, and also finding out why everyone is talking about passport photos.

Thanks for all of the helpful information! I think I'm going to check on getting an international driver's license too. My interview is on the 20th, and I'm pretty pleased with my time and date. =D
