Forums Slow?

Postby AichiPA_Kevin » Thu Sep 01, 2011 3:40 pm

For the last couple weeks, I've found these boards to be running really slowly. Sometimes it takes half a minute, a minute or more to load a single thread or board, or to post a reply. I've tried visiting the forums from a couple of different internet connections, and it's slow in all cases, so that makes me think it's the forums and not my connection. For one or two days this week (maybe Tuesday-ish, I don't quite remember) the forums ran just fine, loading quickly and smoothly, then went back to dragging their heels the next day.

Anyone else having this problem?

I think it's an issue with the server we use in general (the JET Programme homepage is running quite slow lately too). We are looking into it... :(

Thanks, David. Good to know it's not just my imagination, anyway ;)

Sadly, I am fairly certain no one gets placed in Tokyo (city, anyway). The people who do get placed in Tokyo prefecture end up being on the outlying islands.

Heh, that was in September! It is doing it again at the moment, though, yes.

This issue still hasn't been resolved; the forums really are embarrassingly slow.

It took me over a minute this morning just to login, and I'm on 40MB internet.

sounds like these forums need a monthly or fortnightly server maintenance/restart!

WORD. These forums are approaching unusable levels of slowosity. Also, as someone mentioned on ITIL, my login cookies are constantly being forgotten; I often have to log in twice a day, if not more.

C'mon, guys!

The forum was back up to speed this week, but is now rapidly degrading again.

Has anyone figured out what's causing this? Does the forum software have a memory leak? Are you going over bandwidth allocation and getting throttled? Is it the number of simultaneous users? Is someone forgetting to feed the hamsters?

probably a combination of everything! I'd be guessing it's not terminating old/closed sessions or something like that. *yawn* can't really tell, but it's definitely an over time thing!

...and once again, the forums are slowing down. I guess the hamsters got tired over the summer.
