TEFL/TESL

Postby aweitzm1 » Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:48 pm

I am interested in getting my TEFL Certificate. I am in my beginning stages of researching which company to go with.

Can anyone reccommend a good company and any advice. I read that I should do the 100 hour course. I work full-time so I am looking to do this online.

Should I start the program prior to going to Japan or wait and get my TEFL Certificate in Japan?

I would appreciate any advice from people who have gotten their certificate already.

I did mine online with Bridge-Linguatec, but It was a few years ago, so I'm not sure how many hours it was, but I think it was a good program and I think it is reputable, but I'm not positive.

One thing to note, though, four years after I completed the program I contacted them to see if I could access the course information again and they searched and searched and had no record of me. Hopefully that was just a fluke and at least I have my certificate/diploma of completion. Just a heads up.

Hope this helps.

I took mine through Oxford Seminars. Good experience for me. They are known for their teacher placement service (they help you find a job if you are having trouble making use of your TESL certificate).

I will second what Jenna said. My company recommends Bridge-linguatec for all it's employee's to get TEFL certified and they have a 60hr and a 120hr online course (I believe). I will be taking the 120hr one starting in December or January.
42. Now, what's the question?

All I needed from an online format: Personal emails from a tutor. I did the 100 hour TESOL. I just finished 4 weeks ago. I was working full time and hammered the course out in 3 weeks! Thats not to say i didnt learn alot, i just went hardcore with it. Excellent course with an actual home base school in Toronto, Ont, Canada.

Lastly, cheap isnt always good, but in this case, the program was great and it was cheap: 300$ cnd!

I'm hoping to do Trinity. From the sound of it, it's difficult to get our lecturer to recommend us to it and we're a 3rd year TESOL class that's already taught and studied for far over 100 hours. They've apparently a very good reputation.

What I'd be worried about with the on-line certification is the chance to practice actual solo teaching, if you want to use it for more than the JET Programme.

Sweet! Yeah I'm taking a course offered by them in January! I'm very excited about taking the course and I'm glad that they offer the teacher placement assistacne!

I'm super stoked about teaching english abroad. I think its will be an amazing experience.
