Another Yakkan Shoumei question - getting meds sent over.

Postby Ode to a Grasshopper » Wed Jul 18, 2012 11:58 am

Hi all, got a query re. getting meds sent over in more than a months supply. Is it possible to get a years' worth of meds sent through the post with some sort of postal Yakkan Shoumei, say by your prescribing agent?

The longer version is, my psychiatrist has really screwed me around and moved my appointment for my Ritalin script renewal back a week at the last minute, meaning I'm now not going to have enough time to get the Yakkan Shoumei back from Japan in time for my (non-refundable) return flights. Leaving aside the matter of my shrink casually bumping a vital appointment back a week, one week before said appointment, when it was booked just short of six months in advance, is it possible for me to email Dr Baka the documents, the contact details for the Kinki health bureau (I'm coming back via Kansai International Airport), and pretty much all of the rest of the information it'll take to get him to send the whole lot over by post, or am I stuck with getting my mother - who's having some mysterious health issues right now - sending them one month at a time?

I'd rather just have them all here at once than have to do the monthly 'bug my JTEs to sort redelivery since I can't get through the Japanese-only Japan Post redelivery thingy on my own', and it'd be nice if Dr Baka could fix this mess he's offhandedly dumped on me so as to stop him from pulling any more stunts like this next time.

Similarly, is there an email contact for the Kinki Health Bureau?

Here's my story. I was too lazy to get the Yakkan Shoumei for my meds while on JET so my mom was sending them to me monthly. During xmas I snuck more than the allowed amount home and my mom thought she misunderstood the limit and sent 3 months worth of meds to me in a box. Customs opened and was calling me at work. Basically I had to get a Yakkan Shomei filled out for them to give the box to me. They wouldn't even throw them away. I think you can put the Yakkan Shomei in the box and it MIGHT be ok, worst case scenario is you might get a letter from customs... or a phone call... or both.

Cheers AB. :)
Did you have any problems with the date/arrival details on the form, i.e. adjusting for already being in Japan?

Well I filled it out at that time so it wasn't pre-made. I would just have a copy of the Yakkan Shomei (preferably the original) in the box, and if customs have issues they'll let you know and they may make you repeat the process but after that I got the box in 2 days.
