Well, it had to happen...
The JTE wants me to prepare a 30 minute activity for the New Crown 3 We're Talking 2 segment ("What's the matter?").
As many of you noticed, this is a simplified version of the old New Crown 2's own Let's Talk featuring Ratna on a plane, which means the students have already gone through this before and it so happens I was the one in charge of the activity for that talking point last year.
We were working with half classes back then, but my activity was a slight bust (almost all of them were) because students just didn't care. The JTE himself commented "They just don't like English, can't do anything about that." Well, the students had fun, but most were not using English.
I had made masks featuring the likeness of the drop dead gorgeous school nurse which students would hold in front of their faces as the students tried to fake their way out of a class by asking the "nurse" for help. If convincing enough, the "nurse" gave a permission slip, otherwise the students would be told to go back to class.
On paper it's cool, in practice the students would fool around with the masks and chat in Japanese. The teacher did little to remedy the situation.
Now I'm with the same kids and the same teacher, about to redo the same lesson. Only this time they've had a nice two semesters of boring lessons and no English in class (I was at my bigger school for the two semesters) and even more rowdy and undisciplined than before. Oh and I have almost 40 of them at the same time!
I'm open to suggestions.
