Narita Airport, Sunday Morning

airport meeting

7. Airport TOAs meet in the lobby of the Narita hotel and take a shuttle bus to Narita Airport. You will need an ID (your alien registration card) to enter the airport. Upon arrival, TOAs will have a brief meeting with CLAIR staff.

airport tour

8. PC will lead a tour of Narita Airport, and explain what TOAs will be doing at each "station".

9. Game Face!

arrival

10. First new JETs begin to arrive! Let the games begin. Notice that new JETs should be wearing a JET Programme sticker in addition to that unmistakable grin.

passport check 2

15. CLAIR staff and TOAs check that new participants have been issued the correct 3 year visa ("instuctor" for ALTs or "specialist in humanities" for CIRs) and an appropriate landing permit.

passenger receipt collection

16. All arriving JETs will also have to present their passenger receipt (the final page of the airline ticket) to travel agents.

airport line 1

17. At times there can be long lines of new JETs waiting to check in and to ship their luggage.

airport line 3

18. TOAs answer questions and help travel agents while JETs wait in line. TOAs should be familiar with the overall flow of orientation, and refer questions to CLAIR staff if unable to answer.

airport towards bus

19. TOAs try to make sure JETs are out of the way of traffic while waiting in line.

airport boarding bus

20. TOAs guide new JETs to the charter buses.

airport boarding bus

21. Travel agents will take a head-count and collect bus tickets as new JETs board the bus.

airport boarding bus

22. One TOA will board each bus with the new JETs. The TOA will bring along an Orientation Programme and some drinking water. On the way to the Keio, the TOA will give a brief explanation of Orientation mentioning meeting times and dress code as well as meals. The TOA can then lead the group in singing "wheels on the bus go round and round."

Presumably, the TOAs on the first few buses bound for the Keio will be staffing the Information Desk and Hospitality Centre when they arrive at the hotel.

hotel materials

23. TOA will lead new JETs off the bus up to the 4th floor Ohgi room where new JETs can get JET materials. TOAs can then go to CLAIR Office to pick up their own room keys.

Airport TOAs can then take a short break to freshen-up, but are still on duty and ned to check with Sacha to see what needs to be done at the hotel.

hotel keys

24. New JETs will then get their room keys, and be free for the evening. TOAs should stay nearby and help new JETs that are looking lost, or confused.

hospitality center

25. Each TOA will be scheduled for a couple of shifts at the Hospitality Centre. Here, new JETs can check their email on the computers provided, iron clothes and chat with friendly TOAs. The Hospitality Centre is open 24 hours a day, so expect that you may have a late-night shift.

information desk

26. TOAs also staff the CLAIR Information Desk from 8:00 to 24:00, answering questions from new JETs. Expect to have a couple of shifts here as well.

ajet center

27. National AJET is also on hand, and new JETs can take advantage of various AJET services during the Orientation available at the AJET Office.

ajet desk

28. AJET conducts registrations activities in addition to conducting a variety of workshops for new JETs. TOAs are encouraged to volunteer to help present AJET workshops that need speakers.

ajet desk

29. AJET also has an AJET Desk where they sell some of their publications such as the new Planet Eigo and Foxy Phonics. If new JETs ask about these, send them to the AJET Desk.
