12.1 How do I file for the pension refund? |
|---|
Filing for the pension refund is a long process that begins before you leave Japan. For an in-depth explanation, see the Pension Refund section of this website. |
12.2 How can I obtain a letter of reference? |
|---|
Letters of reference should be obtained directly from your former contracting organisation. Keep in mind that writing a letter of reference is not a common occurrence in Japan and that your former contracting organisation might need some guidance as to what type of letter is appropriate (perhaps providing some samples would be best). Please understand that letters of reference can only be provided by your employer, and therefore cannot be provided by CLAIR or by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Furthermore, only your former contracting organisation can make statements regarding the specifics of your work, such as hours taught and duties fulfilled. |
12.3 How can I obtain proof of employment? |
|---|
Proof of employment should also be attained from your former contracting organisation. CLAIR can provide a limited gProof of Participationh statement similar to the following: "Our records show that John was a participant on the JET Programme from 2006 to 2007, placed in Inaka Town." Many employers do not find this statement enough, so it is recommended that you contact your former contracting organisation. |
12.4 Does teaching experience gained on the JET Programme transfer to institutions in my home country? |
|---|
While your contracting organisation will be able to provide documentation that outlines number of classroom hours and duties performed, etc., whether or not this experience will transfer to institutions in your home country is entirely up to the discretion of each individual institution. |
12.5 How do I join a JET Alumni Association? |
|---|
JETAA aims to promote a broader and deeper understanding of Japan and the countries participating on the JET Programme. It currently has 50 chapters in 15 participating home countries, and over 20,000 members. Chapter activities include assisting local Japanese Embassy and Consulate staff with JET Programme application interviews and pre-departure orientations, offering support and providing information to those returning home, and organising Japan-related events, etc. Each JETAA chapter maintains its own website and holds annual meetings. Visit the JETAA International website. |
12.6 How do I inform CLAIR of a change of address? |
|---|
In order to receive news from CLAIR about future events of interest to former JET participants, inform CLAIR of any changes of address through the online form. Current JET participants should notify CLAIR via the contracting organisation. |
12.7 How can I help new JET participants preparing to go to Japan? |
|---|
If you wish to continue to be involved in the JET Programme, contact your closest JETAA chapter and Embassy or Consulate General of Japan. |
